The Tax Company, an online tax and GST compliance service, couldn't keep up with WhatsApp enquiries during peak filing season. With The Chat Quotient's AI Agents handling routine questions automatically, a two-person team went from about 15 chats a day to 40-50 without adding headcount.
The Tax Company, based in Bangalore, provides online tax and compliance services across India, including Income Tax Return filing, GST registration and filing, tax consultations, notice assistance, and business compliance support. Most customer enquiries and service coordination happen through the company’s website and WhatsApp.
Founder Sairab Khan and one other person handled every WhatsApp conversation themselves, and enquiries arrived from several sources at once. Tracking which conversation still needed a reply, catching the leads that needed a follow-up, and keeping answers consistent across two people was hard to do by hand. Most of the questions were the same ones on repeat: someone asking about ITR filing almost always wanted to know the price, whether they qualified, which documents to send, and how long filing would take, and typing out that same explanation dozens of times a day ate into hours the team didn’t have for anything else.
The cost showed up during the busiest weeks. Enquiries that came in after hours, or during the crush around ITR and GST deadlines, sometimes sat unanswered for a few hours. By the time Sairab or his colleague got back to them, some customers had already signed up with another tax service provider.
"We received enquiries from multiple sources, but it was difficult to track every conversation, identify which leads required follow-up, and ensure that customers received timely and consistent responses."
The Tax Company runs its WhatsApp support on AI Agents, Campaigns, Leads, Quick Replies, Scheduled Messages, Chat Summarizer, Notes, and Auto-translation, and AI Agents are what Sairab leans on most.
A fairly typical enquiry shows why. A customer messages about an urgent ITR filing, already comparing quotes from a couple of other providers, and asks which ITR form applies to them, what documents they need, the price, and the deadline. AI Agents and Quick Replies answer within minutes, with the specific numbers and documents for their situation rather than a placeholder “we’ll get back to you.” Sairab marks the enquiry as a lead, notes down the customer’s income profile and filing requirement, and if they go quiet, sets a reminder so the thread doesn’t disappear into the rest of the day’s messages. Because the reply was fast and matched exactly what they’d asked, the customer stopped comparing, sent over their documents, and paid.
Chats handled per day went from about 15 to 40-50, still with just two people covering WhatsApp. Reply time fell from a few hours to under 5 minutes, and Sairab reckons the team now saves 8-10 hours a week that used to go into typing out the same answers.

"Chat Quotient makes WhatsApp customer management much more organised and efficient. It helps us respond faster, manage leads, follow up on time, and avoid losing customers because of missed messages. It saves several hours every week and gives a growing business the efficiency of a much larger customer-support team."
Sairab’s ask: better reporting, on response time, lead source, conversion rate, and team performance, so he can see at a glance where a deal is stalling. We’re building it. Feedback this specific, from a founder running the tool day to day, is what we want more of.
We wish Sairab and the whole team at The Tax Company continued growth in Bangalore.
